Safety for Sarah 2019

Oct 20, 2019 | Cinelease Inc

Safety is a high priority for Cinelease, and we are committed to giving back to the community.  Cinelease is proud sponsor of the annual Sarah Jones Field Day Event, in Atlanta, Georgia. Sarah’s parents, Richard and Elizabeth Jones, led the event on Sunday, October 9th, curating a day filled with fun, food, and friends celebrating a new culture around safety in the film industry.  This celebration of Sarah Jones’ life brings together crew members, their friends and families, and other members of the film community in a mutually supportive atmosphere.

Through panel discussions, media coverage, and “on-set safety grants” for filmmakers, the Sarah Jones Film Foundation is raising the profile of safety concerns in the entertainment industry.

Through our relationship with the Sarah Jones Film Foundation, as the annual sponsor of the Sarah Jones Field Day, Cinelease is able to facilitate a connection between two partners who strive to commit resources and time to ensure that film and television students are trained and educated in safety awareness before they arrive to hectic workplace environment.

In 2014, Sarah Elizabeth Jones, 27, was tragically killed while filming Midnight Rider, a biopic about musician Gregg Allman. Sarah’s death prompted an outpouring of grief in the movie industry and galvanized film crew members throughout the entertainment industry, highlighting longstanding concerns about set safety. Thus, Sarah Jones Film Foundation and the “Safety for Sarah” movement was created to honor her legacy and prevent future tragedies from occurring.

Through education and awareness, the Foundation strives to ensure that a life is never again needlessly lost on a film or television set. Learn more about her legacy and the foundation, here

In other related safety awareness commitments,  Cinelease donated shirts and stickers to Columbia College students advocating for safety on set and behind the camera, in honor of Sara Jones.

Additionally, Cinelease is proud to announce that Point Park University in Pittsburg has recently qualified for the Sarah Jones Student Safety Program. Safety for Sarah is a movement within the film industry on a mission to foster on-set safety through awareness and accountability. The University recently received a grant from the SFS Film Foundation to integrate and promote safety in the industry, by laying a foundation of best practices for film students. Cinelease has been a longtime advocate for the Safety for Sarah movement and supporter of the efforts at the University.
